COEP, VJTI, PICT: what percentile you really needed in 2025

Every MHT-CET aspirant has the same three names circled: COEP Technological University, VJTI Mumbai, and PICT Pune. Here is what the open-category (GOPENS) closing numbers actually looked like for their Computer branches, computed directly from CAP cutoff records for 2023 through 2025.
The headline numbers (GOPENS, State/Home-University quota)

A few honest caveats about the gaps. In the dataset we work from, VJTI's Computer Engineering row for 2025 does not carry a published GOPENS figure (the closest published open-adjacent number for that seat is GOBCS at 99.71, rank 789), and neither COEP's nor VJTI's Computer rows appear with GOPENS values in the 2024 file. Where a cell is blank above, the source round file simply doesn't publish that category — we won't invent a number to fill it.
Two useful proxies help complete the picture for 2025:
- VJTI Information Technology (2025, STATE, GOPENS): 99.76 percentile, rank 620. IT at VJTI historically closes just a shade below Computer Engineering, so treat VJTI Computer as "at or above 99.76" for 2025.
- COEP's own ladder in 2025: CSE closed at 99.67 (rank 913), while E&TC closed at 99.47 (rank 1,647) and Electrical at 99.24 (rank 2,443). CSE remains clearly the tightest gate on campus.
What the trend says
Where we have year-on-year data, the direction is consistent: the percentile bar has eased slightly while intake context shifted. COEP CSE went from 99.84 (rank 322) in 2023 to 99.67 (rank 913) in 2025 — that is roughly 600 ranks of breathing room. PICT moved from 714 (2024) to 1,151 (2025) at the closing rank, a softening of about 440 ranks in one year.
Don't misread "easing" as "easy." Even at the 2025 numbers, you needed to be inside the top ~1,200 of the entire state merit list for any of these three seats. At MHT-CET's scale, one percentile point is worth roughly 3,500 ranks near the top, so the difference between 99.6 and 99.9 — which sounds like nothing — is the difference between PICT being comfortable and VJTI being a coin toss.
Practical takeaways for 2026 aspirants
- Target 99.75+ if VJTI/COEP CSE is the dream. The 2023 closes (99.89 and 99.84) show how high the bar can sit in a tight year.
- PICT via Home University quota matters. In 2023 PICT's open close came through the HU list at 99.57 — Pune-region candidates get real leverage here.
- Have the sibling branches on your list. VJTI IT (99.76) and COEP's Robotics & AI (99.75 in 2024) closed within touching distance of the flagship CSE seats.
Cutoff patterns shift with seat matrices, round structure and category conversions every year. Before finalising your option form, verify every figure against the official CAP round PDFs published by the State CET Cell, Maharashtra (cetcell.mahacet.org).
